Bahrain’s Energy Sector Enters Historic Era with Major Milestone of Bapco Modernization Program
03 November 2024Manama, Bahrain - 3 November 2024 – Bapco Energies, the integrated energy company leading the energy transition in the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced during the Gateway Gulf 2024 forum organized by the Bahrain Economic Development Board from November 3 to 5, that it is set to launch a decisive phase of its Bapco Modernization Program (BMP).
The Bapco Modernization Program, one of the largest capital investments in Bahrain’s history, aims to increase Bapco Refining’s capacity from 267,000 barrels per day to 400,000 barrels per day. This project aims to enhance the ability to refine a wider array of crudes and making it more competitive in the global market and aligned with ever-evolving environmental regulations.
In the next 60 days, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s energy sector will achieve a pivotal milestone as Bapco Refining, a subsidiary of Bapco Energies, embarks on an important phase of its refinery modernization startup journey.
This is a historical step toward reinforcing Bahrain’s position as a leader in energy innovation. The initiation of additional crude volumes into the refinery and production of high-quality refined products marks a key progression in the Bapco Modernization Project, setting the stage for a state-of-the-art facility that will define a new era of operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and global competitiveness for the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The refinery modernization project aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain's ambitious vision, inspired by the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, which upholds the values and principles of sustainability, fosters leadership and innovation, and aims to enhance the Kingdom’s global economic competitiveness. This project strives to achieve the desired increase in competitiveness and production capacity while continuously adhering to international best practices in industry and production. Additionally, it supports the development of national talent in the vital energy sector.
