Crude and Petroleum Products
Establishing Bapco as a reliable supplier is a challenge that we succeed at every day to meet our customers’ needs while maintaining environmental and safety standards.
Abu Safah Crude Oil
Abu Safah is an offshore oilfield in the Arabian Gulf jointly owned by Bahrain and Saudi Arabia with a production capacity of 300,000 barrels per day split equally between the two countries. We act as an agent to market Abu Safah crude on behalf of the Government of Bahrain’s equity share of 150,000 barrels per day.
Abu Safah crude oil is a sour medium crude, with an average gravity of 29◦ API and 2.85% Sulfur content. We sell it directly into the international market through Ras Tanura Terminal – in cooperation with Saudi Aramco, in a typical cargo size of 500,000 bbls primarily destined to East of Suez markets, notably to the Far East and Southeast Asia.
Refined Petroleum Products
Through its refinery in Sitra, Bapco produces quality petroleum products that meet the needs of the emerging markets we serve around the world.
Our refined petroleum products exported from the Sitra wharf include:
Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG)
Our barrels of refrigerated LPG are marketed and exported internationally in cooperation with our affiliate, The Bahrain National Gas Company (Banagas). Our LPG is used in everyday applications such as cooking, heating and power generation, as well as feedstock to petrochemical plants.
Naphtha
Our full range of Naphtha is widely used as feedstock for the petrochemical industry in Asian markets to manufacture petrochemical components such as olefins and aromatics.
Gasoline
Nearly all of our Gasoline production is consumed in the domestic market, but occasionally exports are available from Sitra Wharf. Unlike other commodities, Gasoline is often blended using several components to meet specification requirements. The blending and trading of our Gasoline production is managed by our affiliate, Bahrain Gasoline Blending (BGB).
Jet Fuel/Kerosene
We export our barrels of Jet A-1 for commercial aviation from Sitra Wharf and also supply the Bahrain International Airport’s demand through a dedicated pipeline. Our Jet A-1 quality meets the latest international specifications' requirements of DEF STAN 91-091, the ASTM Standard D-1655, and also complies with the latest Aviation Fuel Quality and Jointly Operated Systems (AFQRJOS) checklist.
Gasoil
Bapco’s refinery specialises in blending and handling multiple grades of Gasoil. All our exported Gasoil complies with a maximum specification of 10 ppm sulfur content. We also supply low-sulfur marine diesel oil to meet our customers' bunkering needs.
Fuel Oil
Our high-sulfur fuel oil is used as bunker fuel for vessels with exhaust gas scrubber systems, and for environmentally compliant power plants.
Asphalt
With a penetration grade of 60/70, our Asphalt is widely used for road construction and repairs as well as waterproofing products. Our Asphalt is exported to regional markets in 25 metric tonnes capacity trucks from the Asphalt Plant at Bapco's refinery. It is also available for export by sea in various cargo sizes to Asian and African markets on a “first come, first served” basis.
Sulfur
Sulfur is a by-product of the refinery, extracted from refined petroleum products to meet global environmental regulations. In our Sulfur Handling Facility, the extracted liquid Sulfur is converted into bright yellow solid pastilles, ready to be exported through Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) and used as raw material in manufacturing fertilizers and insecticides.
BAPbase®
Branded globally as BAPbase®, our Group III Lubricant Base Oils are in increasing demand to meet the requirements for high performance and fuel efficiency of automotive and industrial applications, while meeting stringent environmental regulations. Our BAPbase® grades are produced by our affiliate, the Bahrain Lube Base Oil Company (BLBOC), and are available for export in various cargo sizes.
