Achieving Historical Record of 120 Million Safe Working Hours
Bapco Refining, an operating company of Bapco Energies, held its annual Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) ceremony for the Year 2023, to recognize Bapco Refining and contractors’ employees for their outstanding HSE achievements for last year.
This annual gathering at Bapco Club in Awali is an important event in Bapco Refining’s calendar during which HSE performance is reviewed, and awards are presented to the company's departments and contractors who excelled in HSE performance and practices during the year.
Bapco’s Refining Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery commended Bapco Refining not only for its outstanding HSE performance but also for the role it plays in promoting strong HSE culture in Bahrain and the region, in line with the policy of the Bapco Energies headed by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bapco Energies, and with the support of H.E. Abdulla Jehad Al Zain, Chairman of Bapco Refining’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Jawahery congratulated Bapco Refining winning departments and contractors for creating a safe workplace and protecting the environment throughout a challenging year.
During the ceremony, Mr. Luc Smets, General Manager Refining and Chairman Environment, Health & Safety Committee, presented an overview of the company's performance in the areas of health, safety, and the environment during the past year and the records achieved in this regard, expressing his thanks to Bapco Refining employees and contractors for their great care and commitment in maintaining a safe workplace. He added that everyone must continue to exercise the utmost attention and caution and remain vigilant, stressing that safety will always remain, as it does now, a top priority for the Company in all the initiatives it implements.
The company has achieved an unprecedented accomplishment of completing 120 million safe working hours without any lost-time incidents. This achievement marks a historic moment for Bapco Refining and its dedicated team, who played a crucial role in the successful execution of the Bapco Modernization Programme (BMP)—the largest project in the company's history and in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
In light of this remarkable achievement, H.E Mr. Abdulla Jehad Al Zain, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bapco Refining, expressed his immense pride in reaching this record-breaking number of safe working hours. He attributed this accomplishment to the unwavering commitment and exemplary awareness demonstrated by the company's professional workforce in upholding the highest occupational safety standards and complying with all safety requirements. Mr. Al Zain commended both the company's employees and the contractors, emphasizing their collective efforts in executing this monumental and strategic project.
Furthermore, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, Chief Executive Officer of Bapco Refining, praised the company's accomplishment of reaching 100 million safe working hours. He also affirmed: "Bapco Refining recognizes the paramount importance of safety in its operations and services. Today, we celebrate an outstanding and unique record in the field of safety, which is a testament to our ongoing dedication to fostering a culture of safety in the workplace. We invest in our national workforce by providing comprehensive training opportunities and facilitating their interaction both domestically and internationally, with the aim of broadening their experience and enhancing their expertise in this critical aspect."
Winners were identified for consistently supporting HSE initiatives and adding value, transferring good practices to others and innovative management of HSE issues. Bapco’s Refining winning departments are as follows: Risk Category 1: Power & Utilities Department (P&U), Risk Category 2: Process Control Engineering Department (PCED), Risk Category 3: Corporate Communications Department. As for Contractors, the winners are: Large Contractor: Bahrain Special Technical Services (BSTS), and for Small Contractor: Ma’meeri. In addition, a number of employees were honoured for their excellent HSE performance and active contributions.
