Introduction
About Us
The Bapco Modernization Programme (BMP) is the largest strategic project ever undertaken in the history of Bahrain, and for Bapco Refining, this multi-billion dollar venture is the largest capital investment in its 90 year history. The BMP vision is driven by meeting the challenges of the future and leaving a lasting legacy, while its success is expected to have a multiplier effect.

OUR OBJECTIVE
BMP’s objectives are to increase refining capacity, enhance the product slate, improve the energy efficiency, and emerge as one of the most competitive and environmentally compliant refineries in the region. The BMP is essential for Bapco Refining’s long-term sustainability, and provides a sound foundation for realising the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Vision 2030.
Refinery crude capacity increases from 267000 barrels per day (bpd) to 400,000 bpd.
The new Crude Oil Distillation Unit processes up to 225,000 Barrels per day, equipped with state-of-the-art heat recovery and salt removal facilities to save greatly on operating and maintenance costs.
Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel production will see up to a 72% increase. The new Diesel Hydro-treatment unit uses cutting-edge hydrogen technology to desulfurize, denitrify, and demetallize diesel to produce clean, ultra-low sulphur diesel for customers locally and abroad. The diesel production of Bapco refining will nearly double with the BMP, supplying critical automotive infrastructure across several continents.
Jet Fuel production will see up to a 90% increase. The new Jet Fuel Treatment Unit expansion uses the latest improved design and technology, to nearly double the current Jet Fuel production of the Kingdom. MEROX, electrostatic, and filter processes refine the Jet Fuel to meet the high-quality product expected by our customers.
The brownfield areas are situated within the battery limits of the existing refinery and are associated with upgrades to existing refinery infrastructure such as process units, transportation piping, storage tanks and the wharf. 53 existing units have been upgraded and modified as part of BMP
